Why not try making this classic treat to cheer up your hosts at the end of a long working week? If you have your own recipe from home you would like to share let us know.

Ingredients.

  1. Jam – any flavour you like (100g)
  2. Plain flour (250g)
  3. Butter or margarine (125g)
  4. One egg
  5. A pinch of salt
  6. You will also need a rolling pin, a bowl, a small pastry cutter and a baking tray with little tart holes!
  7. Don’t forget to check with your host before using the kitchen.

Method.

  1. Put flour, butter and salt in a bowl and rub together with your finger tips until it looks like fresh breadcrumbs.
  2. Stir in the egg and add a tablespoon of cold water.
  3. Form a dough with the mixture using your hands.
  4. Wrap in clingfilm and place in the fridge for 30 minutes.
  5. (Alternatively, skip steps 1 to 4, buy some pre-made pastry and open the packet).
  6. Heat oven to 200C and grease baking tray with butter/margarine.
  7. Lightly dust work surface with flour and roll out pastry.
  8. spoon in some jam and bake in the oven an bake for 15 minutes.
  9. leave to cool, remove from tray, feed to homestay host.
